Words From Bumbalough Hollow Farm

What inspired you to start Bumbalough Hollow Farm?

“I have always had a passion for animals and always had animals. Me and my husband got a place and the chicken math started there. It quickly grew from 5 birds to the beautiful flock of birds we raise now. We have been raising since 2020. I fell in love with the brahmas and my husband loved the jersey giants. We decided we wanted to raise and sell to share with others as well as start showing. We've had goats for a couple years as well but had to decide what breed we wanted to stick with. Rabbits we got into the beginning of 2022, we are still learning as we go on them but love it so far. We love our farm!”

What education/skills do you feel have helped make your farm successful?

“I grew up always wanting my own farm and studying animals in school. I did the 4h chick chains and always loved it. As we acquired quality animals I would keep base with breeders and join groups to ask questions and learn as much as I could to make sure the animal has correct care and that I breed the best I can. I love communicating with top breeders to learn how I can always improve my birds and I always love communicating with clients to see how the animals they got from us are doing. I try to answer questions for customers as was done for me when I started.”

What advice would you give to someone starting a farm?

“Do not think you have to start out with the most expensive equipment or the best bloodlines you can get. It is good to start out with the best you can afford and go from there. You can slowly build as you go and upgrade as you can. With birds buy from trustworthy breeders and add as you can afford. I started when I was early 20s and didn't have the best or newest equipment but slowly add and upgrade as we grow and can afford. Every year I'm improving my bloodlines and always continuing to improve. Focus on you and your flock ❤️”
